Robert is Santander's Director of Payment Industry Oversight. With over 18 years’ experience at Abbey National/Santander his responsibilities include overall governance and control for the payment & card operations across the UK bank, as well as defining the strategy for the inter-bank and cards environment. Robert has gained a varied experience across the scale-challenger bank with much of his time in the payments business, including a number of significant projects: Payments lead in four bank migrations (from Abbey, A&L, B&B, and GE money) to Santander systems; CASS; Paym; and Faster Payments; as well as internal innovations to develop Santander's Corporate banking payment applications. As a result of his work in recent years on significant industry wide projects such as CASS, Paym, and Faster Payments, Robert brings a wealth of experience in the development of successful and complex cross sector projects, involving multiple stakeholders. This experience coupled with Santander’s unique position as a scale challenger and technical depth, enable Robert to provide a strategic, industry wide overview in how best to both develop and execute a UK strategy for payments, in the interests of all service users.
