A respected and global organisation representing the key interests of data resource management professionals, DAMA stands for Data Management Association. The first Chapter of DAMA International was founded in Los Angeles, USA, in 1980. Its first board of directors was elected in 1988. It defines Data Resource Management as, “The development and execution of architectures, policies, practices and procedures that properly manage the full data lifecycle needs of an enterprise”. DAMA UK Ltd., a not-for-profit limited company with a committee of seven (volunteer) directors, is a Chapter of DAMA International. It was established in November 2002 and the inaugural meeting was held on 1 April 2003. A programme of quarterly events has been running ever since.
